Answers to the questions we hear most.
How does getting started work?
It takes four steps and we handle most of them.
- Reach out. Call us at (201) 644-6523 or fill out the form.
- We check your insurance. It’s free, so you’ll know what you’ll pay before anything is scheduled.
- You tell us what you’re looking for. Want a therapist who speaks Spanish, has a particular focus, or is around your age? We got you covered.
- We call you back to schedule. Usually same or next day. We’ll book you with your new therapist at whatever time works for you.
That’s it. You don’t have to research therapist, compare profiles, or figure out insurance on your own.
How do you match me with a therapist?
We use what you share in step 3 (see above), such as your schedule, preferences, and what’s going on for you, to pair you with a therapist on our team who’s available and a good fit. You don’t have to know what kind of therapist you need. That’s our job.
How do virtual sessions work?
Sessions happen over secure video, so you can join from home, your car on a lunch break, or anywhere private. Before your first session, you’ll receive a link via your preferred form of contact. All sessions occur on our secure patient portal, which you can access after creating an account (no downloads required). All you need is a phone, tablet, or computer with a camera and a quiet spot. And yes, your parked car counts.
Here’s a complete walkthrough of how to sign up for our patient portal.
How often will I have sessions?
Most people start with weekly sessions, which helps build momentum early on. As things improve, you and your therapist may move to every other week or adjust as needed. There’s no fixed rule; it’s based on what helps you.
Is what I'm going through "enough" for therapy?
If you’re thinking about it, it’s enough. Most people who call us don’t start with a diagnosis. They say, “I just have a lot going on right now.” That might mean:
- Family stress: a divorce, a loss, or constant conflict at home
- Work stress: losing a job, or being stretched so thin you can’t keep up
- Anxiety: second-guessing yourself, feeling insecure, or not being able to shut your mind off
- Feeling low or numb: a heaviness that won’t lift, or having trouble feeling much of anything
If something’s going on and you think you need help, reach out. You don’t have to know what’s wrong to start getting help.
How long will it take to speak with a therapist?
After you reach out, we’ll call you back the same day or the next to schedule. Your first session is often within 7 days, and same-day appointments are sometimes available.
Will I speak to my therapist before committing?
Yes, absolutely. We consider your first session as your “getting-to-know-you” session. If it’s not a match, you can switch immediately — just let us know.
What if I don't click with my therapist?
That’s okay, and it happens. Feeling comfortable with your therapist matters. Just let us know, and we’ll match you with someone else on our team, no awkward conversation required.
And if you make it a few sessions before you decide to switch, that’s okay too. Our therapists work together to make switching as easy as possible.
How long are sessions?
Typically, 50 minutes long.
What if you don't accept my insurance?
We offer a self-pay option. If this applies to you, we’ll let you know before you book so there are no surprises.
What if I don't have insurance?
We offer a self-pay option. This number comes from a complicated equation with many variables. If you want to know how much you’ll pay, contact us.
